How long ago did you start orienteering? 20 years
Have you been to previous World Championships? WOC 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008
What is your best WOC result? 2005 Japan: 9th place Middle distance
What are your orienteering goals this season? Clean fast races, good flow and concentration.
What keeps you motivated to train for the sport? The hunt for the “perfect” race.
What is your favourite event? WOC. High pressure, excellent maps and courses and tough competition. And of course the chance to hang out with friends and family from Canada when not competing.
Do you have a pre-race ritual? I go through a very specific ritual of getting dressed, taping ankles, warming up, checking the start clock, visualizing, and strides. Although it has become much more flexible since I have had kids.
What would be your best orienteering memory? Too many to choose just one! Crisp fall days in beautiful and complicated stony German terrain at the World Cup finals in 2004. Great weather, terrain, map and course setting at the Rocks orienteering race in 2008. Holger winning WOC in 2006. And of course my 9th place in WOC 2005 in Japan.
It’s been great to follow your races. So close in both the middle and the long! Best of luck in the relay. Go Canada! :)
