From Jan 28 to Feb 5, the Bay Area Orienteering Club is organizing the 2012 Sierra Ski-O Tour. The tour is the first ski-orienteering event outside of Europe to host the Ski-Orienteering World Cup. The Tour also includes the 2012 North American and U.S. Ski-O Championships, a couple of recreational events, and two World Ranking Events.

 Dick James, a founding member of the Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia and past Board member of the Canadian Orienteering Federation died on Thursday Jan 12 in Halifax, after complications resulting from an aortic aneurysm. Dick was 79. Dick was a passionate orienteer who devoted thousands of hours over the years to helping the sport grow. Most recently, Dick was a volunteer at the Canadian Orienteering Championships in Whitehorse in July 2011. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dick’s family, especially to Dick’s wife Margaret and his daughter, Pam, both key members of the Canadian orienteering community.
