There are 12 Canadians registered so far for the 2012 World Masters Orienteering Championships July 1-8 in Germany. The registration deadline is May 10. No qualification is required, anyone can register (you need to be a member of a Canadian club) and there are events for orienteers under 35. Go Canada Go!

The HPC is encouraging Canadian orienteers who [...]]]> The COF’s High Performance Committee (HPC) is excited to announce the Canadian 2012 World University Orienteering Championship (WUOC) team!

Held every 2 years, WUOC is a great opportunity for up and coming orienteers to experience a competitive environment while racing against some of the best orienteers in the world! The HPC is encouraging Canadian orienteers who are also university students to attend WUOC as an excellent training opportunity for the World Orienteering Championships (WOC).

Canada will be represented by Damian Konotopetz, Eric Kemp, Jeff Teutsch, Robbie Anderson, Will Critchley, and Louise Oram. This year Pam James, former national team athlete, will head the team as the coach and team leader . WUOC is being held in Alicante, Spain from July 2-6th.

WUOC is organized by FISU (International University Sports Federation). Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) works with the COF to coordinate Canada’s involvement in the championships.

Do you know any intermediate level orienteers between the ages of 13 and 20 who love the sport and want to improve their skills?

This May, the Sass Peepre committee is launching a four month pilot project to provide online orienteering coaching to intermediate level junior orienteers who are not yet involved in the High Performance Program and who may not have access to coaching at the club level. It is recommended that all participants have a minimum of one or two seasons of orienteering experience.

Participants will meet bi-weekly (every two weeks) with a coach via Skype to analyze maps, practice visualization, and create friendships across the national junior orienteering community. Guest speakers will be invited to discuss orienteering techniques and strategies, training, and recent events. The exercises and sessions will be planned to meet the prescribed learning outcomes and goals of the Canadian Orienteering Federation’s Long Term Athlete Development program, a program which focuses on the development of both competitive and recreational life-long orienteers and physically active citizens.

The dates and times of the sessions will be determined by the time zones and availability of the participants. This program is free of cost. All participants must have access to Skype and a decent internet connection.

The specifics [...]]]> The Alberta Orienteering Association is currently looking for Canadian mappers who have extensive experience producing top quality orienteering maps (OCAD) to the latest ISOM and ISSOM standards to work on different projects in Alberta and BC during the summer of 2012, for a period of 8 weeks. The hourly pay rate will be $25.01.

The specifics areas where we want to map are still to be determined.

The mappers will be coordinated by the Alberta Orienteering Association.

The JWOC team is heading to Slovakia from July 7 – 13. Below is [...]]]> The COF’s High Performance Committee (HPC) is proud to announce the initial team selection for the 2012 Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC). Once again, we had a strong group of focused athletes who wish to represent Canada at the World Championship level.

The JWOC team is heading to Slovakia from July 7 – 13. Below is the initial selection for the Canadian Team. Additional athletes may be added to the team in May.
