About the COF
Levy
Are you wondering why is costs
more to participate at the Canadian Orienteering Championships
than most other orienteering events?
The Canadian
Orienteering Federation (COF) applies a levy each year to the
registration fee for the Canadian Orienteering Championships
(COC) and its affiliated events (this year Fishbones and the
Hopewell Rocks event). The COF relies on levies (from the COCs,
the North American Championships when they are held in Canada &
any periodic international events hosted) plus association fees
from the provinces and territories to operate as it receives no
government and minimal additional funding*. Using these revenues, the
COF is able to fund various initiatives to help guide and
support the development of orienteering in Canada. Current
projects include: revamping the coaching & officials programs;
updating the COF rules; updating a policy manual; modernizing
the COF’s image (developing new logos and graphics); and
exploring the development of a national database. In addition
the COF has operating expenses including: the IOF 250 Euro fee
for each World Ranking Event, newsletter production; national
championship medals; office and administration expenses; and in
the past and possibly in the future the salary and expenses of
an Executive Director (all the administration is currently done
by volunteers). Full financial reports are presented at the COF
AGM and are available on the
COF website.
Contact the COF for more information.
Thank you for
supporting the COF.
Also please
consider supporting the national junior and senior teams to help
them with their expenses to attend the World and Junior World
Championships.
*We are
currently receiving some funding from the Coaching Association
of Canada for the development of the new coaching program.
