Did you know?
...that the best ever finish at the World Orienteering Championships by a North American is 9th place. This great result was achieved by Canadian Sandy Hott Johansen in the middle distance race in Japan in 2005.

>>WOC 2009 selection race details
The
FWOC in Calgary will organize the 2009 National Team Selection Races, May 23 and 24. The long
distance will be on Sunday at Sandy McNabb, about a 2 hour drive south of Calgary. The Sprint and the Middle will take place on Saturday.
All National Team contenders must notify national team coach
Magnus Johansson at magjohATgmailDOTcom by the Friday prior to this event (May 22) if you wish to be considered for the team.
The 2009 selection criteria is identical to last year´s. The team will be named shortly after the selection races in Calgary. The team will be selected based on the race results in the M/W elite categories and the National Team Coach discretion. Up to 2 non-traveling alternates may be named by discretion.
All major clubs in Canada were asked to organize the 2009 selection races and only YOA and FWOC responded positively. The committee decided for the FWOC bid because of logistical and cost reasons.

The COF has assigned a committee the task of exploring the possibility to change the selection to a more pro-active and discretionary process, but it was decided to be too late to introduce this for 2009. The committee will ask for feedback from the athletes during 2009 for
a possible change in 2010. On this committee are the following people; Hans Fransson, Ross Burnett, Marie-Catherine Bruno, Magnus Johansson, Charlotte MacNaughton and Adrian Zissos.

>>JWOC 2009 Selection Process
The deadline for athletes wishing to be considered for the 2009 World Junior Orienteering Championships is Jan 15, 2009. See the selection process. Send the application to Magnus Johansson at magjohATgmail.com.
