Orienteering Coach/Junior Programme Co-ordinator job
This spring Golden Horseshoe Orienteering (GHO) is undertaking an approximately two month pilot project to expanding its school and training program and is currently looking for an individual who, together with GHO officials, will lead and co-ordinate this project. The job will involve visiting schools, planning and organizing orienteering exercises, planning and organizing permanent courses, and assisting at weekly GHO training and GHO weekend events. 

We will look favourably at applications from individuals with mapping experience. We would like the successful candidate to start in April, but exact start dates can be discussed. The job term is approximately two months. Salary offered is $15/hour, and we expect successful candidate to work 40h/week. Golden Horseshoe Orienteering is as a not-for-profit incorporated volunteer organization that for over the last 40 years has been greatly involved in many communities of the Golden Horseshoe each year by assisting in trail map development and school programs.

>> The Alberta Orienteering Association is currently looking for Canadian mappers who have extensive experience producing top quality orienteering maps (OCAD) to the latest ISOM and/or ISSOM standards to work on different projects in Alberta during the summer of 2009. The different areas where the AOA wants to make are in Calgary and the Alberta Rockies. The mappers will be coordinated by the Alberta Orienteering Association. The Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) have wrapped up. A big congratulations to Damian, Robbie, Graham, Lee, Fraser, Colin, Carol and Emily for representing Canada.
Relay:
Men: Canada 2 (Damian, Colin, Graham) 43rd; Canada 1 (Robbie, Fraser, Lee) 45th. Women: Emily and Carol teamed up with a Slovenian and finished 31st. Emily was 10th on the 1st leg and Carol was 24th on the 2nd leg. They were in 18th at the end of the 2nd leg.
Long final:
Emily Kemp 62nd, Carol Ross 88th; Robbie Anderson 127th, Colin Abbott 131st, Lee Hawkings 132nd, Graham Ereaux 136th, Fraser Ross 143rd, Damian Konotopetz DSQ.
Middle final:

Yes Mag is a Canadian children's science magazine. In 2006 they did a theme issue on cartography and included a two page, comic-style story about orienteering. The story won an award from the Association of Educational Publishers in the US. Check it out here - it's fantastic! Orienteering clubs are welcome to use to the pdf. >> Canadian Amateur Sport Network
The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), working with a group of partners, applied to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on December 3, 2007, for two television licenses for specialty sports television networks dedicated to Canadian high performance sport. The applications are for an English language license and a French language license: Canadian Amateur Sports Network (CASN) and Réseau du sport amateur canadien (RSAC). Details are here.

Thank you at all the clubs that hosted events during Orienteering Week in Canada from May 2-9, 2007. There were a large number of events held across the country. O clubs - please send your OWIC feedback to the COF so we can continue to improve on the week and make OWIC '08 bigger and better.

The IOF's competition rules (updated for 2007) are here. (the last page contains a summary of the changes since the 2004 version).
>> New IOF Code of Ethics
The IOF Council released a Code of Ethics. The code comprises four principles: equality, fair play, respect and integrity. It expresses the IOF’s commitment to the highest standards of conduct in sport administration and competition.
>> New course and category guidelines
We have new course and category guidelines for championship events. These were approved at the AGM. Thanks to Ross Burnett and Brent Langbakk for their work in putting these together. We will be looking at how to best apply these guidelines for smaller events too. To those of you organizing A meets and provincial championship in 2007, please give us your feedback.
