Learning Summit Offerings

including descriptions, pre-requisites, fees, etc.

  • Officiating: IOF Event Advisor (EA) Seminar

Instructor: David Rosen, Chair IOF Rules Commission
    Dates: Aug 12, 10:00-17:00; Aug 13, 09:00-15:00
    Fee: $75, two lunches included
Location: to be confirmed - will be in the Ottawa area

The IOF requirements for licensing as an IOF EA are:

    >Be an active foot orienteer.
    >Have competed in countries other than your own.
    >Have successfully controlled major national events in the last 3 years.
    >Be competent to communicate with IOF and the organising Federation (mainly in English).
    >Have attended, and have been an active participant in an IOF Event Advisers Clinic.
    >Be familiar with the IOF Rules and other relevant publications.
    >Be recognized as a top standard controller/event adviser and endorsed as suitable by your Federation.

The following IOF publications will be used at the Clinic:

    >IOF FootO Competition Rules
    >International Specification for Orienteering Maps, ISOM
    >International Specification for Sprint Orienteering Maps, ISSprOM
    >IOF Control descriptions
    > IOF Manual for World Ranking Events

    Eligibility for Canadian participants:

    >Orienteering Canada members should have their O300 CP certification to get the most out of this course. If a candidate has studied and passed the O300 CP exam, but still have to do the practicum, this course would also be worthwhile.
    >Achieving IOF EA (O400) certification does not automatically include O300 ED and O300 Controller certification. OC requires people to pass the O300 ED and O300 Controller modules to serve that function at a Canada Cup event.
    >In order to be nominated by Orienteering Canada to be an IOF EA, and therefore an Orienteering Canada O400 official, the candidate must meet the following prerequisites:
-->Certified as a Level O300 Course Planner (O300 Controller and/or O300 Event Director are recommended)
-->Member of Orienteering Canada (ie. a member of a club or PTOA affiliated with Orienteering Canada)
-->Receive endorsement from Orienteering Canada which will submit the forms to the IOF. The IOF will verify the applicant’s credentials.

    Eligibility for non-Canadian participants:

We encourage you to participate in this International-level training that is applicable to all IOF-member Federations. After completing this course, you will need to follow the certification process used by your orienteering Federation.

US and overseas participants are very welcome!
Indeed, we very much hope that our US and overseas friends will take advantage of the mapping courses and IOF EA clinic. The coaching and O300 officials clinics are geared to Canadian norms, but might be of interest nonetheless.
