Did you know?
...that the best ever finish at the World Orienteering Championships by a North American is 9th place. This great result was achieved by Canadian Sandy Hott Johansen in the middle distance race in Japan in 2005.

Carol Ross

Age: 21
Hometown:  Moncton, NB
Currently living:  Vancouver, BC
Club:  GVOC
Occupation:  Math graduate student

How long ago did you start orienteering?
My Dad used to carry me in the baby backpack while he ran his course!

What are your goals for your first WOC:
Results-wise, my goal is to make a final.  Racing-wise, I'd like to run fast with good flow.

Have you been to other international events?
I've represented Canada at JWOC for the past four years.

What is your best result or the one you are the most proud of?
I was really pleased with my races at the BC Champs in June as I could really see how much I've been improving.

What keeps you motivated to train for the sport?
Living with so many good orienteers and seeing myself get faster.

What is your favourite event?
Last year I would have said the Sass Peepre training camp, but now that I'm a senior I'm going to say the GVOC sprint training camp.

Do you have a pre-race ritual?
Listening to
Trance 3 with Patrick.  That CD is coming to Hungary!

What would be your best orienteering memory?
Oh dear, it's hard to pick just one!  Representing Canada at JWOC and meeting orienteers from all over the world has been incredible every time.
