Did you know?
...that the best ever finish at the World Orienteering Championships by a North American is 9th place. This great result was achieved by Canadian Sandy Hott Johansen in the middle distance race in Japan in 2005.

How long ago did you start orienteering?
Started orienteering in 1991 or so with the US Champs on the old Baileytown map in New York - still one of my favourite terrains to this day.

How many WOC’s have you been to?
97 - Norway, 99 - Scotland, 01 - Finland, 03 - Switzerland, 04 - Sweden, 05 - Japan, 06 - Denmark, 07 - Ukraine, 08 - Czech Republic

What is your best WOC result:
?50 something in short final, 1999

What are your goals this year at WOC?
A-final in Middle

What keeps you motivated to train for the sport?
Keeps me off the streets at night

What is your favourite event?
Middle distance

Do you have a pre-race ritual?
Nope

What would be your best orienteering memory?
Watching my brother-in-law hold on to win the WOC 2006 middle distance title in Denmark. He started early and as each runner came in just a little too late to take the fastest time, a group of us would cheer loudly. At first I'm sure people thought we were being rude but I think they understood eventually.
